To attain oneness with god it is important to know who we are deep down inside. And on that note “To thine ownself be true”. Because one is anserable to no-one but one-self. If you are true to yourself no-mater what the external circumstances are then you are going to build yourself, your character. The moment you are untrue to yourself you have already lost a part of you. which later-on, btw, you will have to work towards to regain! And thats where the theory of Karma also holds good.
To that effect, one also has to learn to realise ones own strengths and weakesses. Overlooking your weakness is not a good thing and should be substitued by “Overcoming” it. Hence working towards one’s weakness in-order to overcome it and convert it into a strength is yet another aspect of knowing oneself. Thus knowing oneself is just a begining, followed by working on oneself towards a spiritual betterment . However, one got to take that first step!! – Know oneself!!
Additionally, when we talk about weakness, one may consider it to be a matter of debate. For what may be a weakness for one may stand out to be “strength”, on the contrary, for the other. Well, in this case, the one thing that I would like to mention is that we have to listen to our inner voice deep down inside of us. If you are true to yourself, this inner voice would guide you through realising the good and the bad, through right and wrong. Ignoring this voice would not help, only instead make matters worse. Hence it is imperative to be in touch with ourselves and ofcourse, coming back to the main point – we got to learn to look into ourselves and recognize/connect with our conscience / our inner self.
